The snails season begins, so it’s not strange to see people eating snails around the streets and squares of Córdoba these days.We know that you, as Erasmus students, want to get as much from the culture of Córdoba as it’s possible. So, if you feel like it, you have three months to be brave and taste the snails in Córdoba.

This little bug is very much appreciated in our gastronomy. Lots of snails are cooked everyday in more than 35 selling points, disseminated in different areas of Córdoba. Probably an Erasmus will find very strange to eat snails, but I can tell you that they are delicious and are a very healthy and complete food, high in proteins and low fat.

erasmus-córdobaIf you are going to try them, you must know that there are different types of snails. We have “chicos” (small ones), “cabrillas” (medium-sized ones) and “gordos” (big ones) and they could be prepared using different recipes. Small ones are usually prepared with broth (“caracoles en caldo”) or hot sauce (popularly known as “picantones”). Medium and big ones are normally prepared with sauce. These are the normal recipes you can find in every selling point in Córdoba, but in the last years, many selling points are introducing more innovative recipes, such as “caracoles a la carbonara” or “caracoles en salsa de canela” (snails with cinnamon sauce). They prices are very affordable (ideal for Erasmus students), around 1.20€, for the ones cooked with broth and around 2.50€ for those prepared with sauces. If you try the “picantones”, don’t forget to accompany them with a drink! ;P
